  1. I can't help noticing your style has changed so much since you started this blog. you need to find a style of your own rather than copy and slightly change other artists work, the ballet shoe was a copy of Oriana, and more recently with the jam jars, a copy of Mason, and I could quote more!
    Think about it please!

    1. Anonymous, firstly let me make it clear that I have not copied the work of any other artist. I do know Oriana's work, but have never heard of Mason. All of my still life work is completely original. The ballet shoe is my wife's and the jar of jam is Tesco's Finest range, direct from my fridge. The only similarity is in the choice of subject, not the style. The style is my own. I paint what I see, to the best of my ability. Are you saying that the artist should not paint a glass of wine on a table because Chardin already did it - 300 years ago? I was thinking of painting a reclining nude, but oh dear Titian has already done one! In fact, look at Titian's Venus of Urbino. Now also look at Giorgione's Sleeping Venus upon which it is based and then later Manet's Olympia. Now, I would not dare compare myself to them, but they have copied. The point is that artist's feed off each other, that is the way the art evolves. I have not directly copied the work of any other artist, but I do NOT have a problem with it. Consider this quote from Picasso: 'Good artists copy, great artists steal.'

  5. I'm sorry but may I just say to the anonymous person who commented above - if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all! James, clearly people are just jealous, I'm extremely proud of you and those look yum yum! Well done.
